Hi, I’m Lara, the St. Cuthbert’s Society LGBT+ rep for 2020 to 2021 and I’m here to talk about Cuths very own LGBT+ society. Who are we and what do we do We are St. Cuthbert’s Society’s very own LGBT+ society ran by LGBT+ students. Our main aim is to provide Cuths students who identify anywhere on the LGBT+ spectrum with a safe place to be themselves and have fun. The LGBT+ Society tend to host a variety of socials so that there is something for everyone. Over the past year we have hosted a variety of movie night, coffee mornings, discussions, as well as bar crawls. We had plans of organising a pride week that coincided with Durham pride and a pride formal which was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19. Alongside the socials we run campaigns to highlight issues affecting LGBT+ students or educating people about our history. How to get involved There are multiple ways to be involved! If you want to represent LGBT+ Cuths students in the JCR and university then you can run to be assistant LGBT+ rep or Trans and Non-Binary rep. Both positions are held within Cuths and require a one minute hust. If elected, you will also become the vice-chair of the Society and help running the society and make Cuths a safer place for LGBT+ students. We also have positions run within the society for campaign managers and social secs, which can be held anonymously. We try to host a variety of socials so that everyone has a chance to hang out and relax.
