St Cuthbert’s Society Choir is an auditioned choir, constituting of around 20 singers, performing both secular and sacred music in a supportive and sociable environment.

We have rehearsals at St Margaret’s Church on Crossgate on Thursday evenings at 18.20, for both our weekly evensong services on Friday evenings.

Having previously sung at both Newcastle Cathedral and York Minster to appreciative congregations, the next year will bring similar performance opportunities. Our repertoire is broad and encompasses music for Eucharist, Evensong, and Compline, with pieces drawn from the best of choral repertoire. Beyond the sacred and liturgical music we sing in services, we are regularly invited to sing at Cuth’s formals and at other college events.

Annually, there is a tour, where we sing services and often a concert; in recent years destinations have included Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin. Recently we have organised joint evensongs with other chapel choirs in Durham. Our latest service with Hatfield Chapel choir demonstrated our choirs progress and improvement in the last few years with a successful event. This encourages more exciting opportunities for St Cuthbert’s Society Choir.
