St Cuthbert’s Society Choir has previously performed a varied repertoire of music at different venues ranging from Durham Cathedral to garden parties and college formals. Mainly, the choir sings a mix of sacred and secular music, regularly performing Eucharist at St Margaret’s church. The choirs performances, however, have not been confined to just Durham. This year we hope to visit other venues in the north, such as Ripon and York.As well as performing, Cuth’s choir is also great for meeting people both from Cuths and from other colleges as there are socials organised throughout the year.
Entry into the choir is through an audition which consists of some sight singing and aural tests. However, there is normally an opportunity in the second week to come along to our rehearsal and give it a go! There are four choral scholarships available at the start of each academic year as well – Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. To find out more or secure an audition, pop along to the College Freshers’ Fair.
If this isn’t enough to tempt you we also have cake at every rehearsal. Need I say more?
